Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore

Trying to book a hotel on a busy high-season weekend in Singapore is no easy task. We wanted to stay on Sentosa and do the whole kids’ holiday thing on our stop-over to Europe, but found all the hotels fully booked weeks ahead. Still obsessed with the idea of a resort holiday we booked the Shangri-La Singapore – the epitome of the Asian hospitality.

Shangri-La Hotel Singapore

Everything in the room at Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore was top-notch, as can be expected. Our Garden Wing room was spacious and overlooked the pool. An extra bed fitted in the room nicely and the kids were overjoyed to see little surprises waiting for them. The hotel is old but has been maintained well.

The pool was perfect for what we were looking for: lounging by the pool after long days checking out the kids’ activities Singapore has to offer. The gardens of the hotel are vast and beautiful – you wouldn’t believe you are almost in the heart of the city.

Even at full capacity the pool didn’t feel crowded, and the water fountains provided endless fun for the kids. I have no complaints about the cold G&Ts either.

The Garden Wing was perfect for the kids. We had our meals at the Waterfall restaurant, that has a lovely Italian menu and seating outdoors by the pool area. It’s much more quiet and atmospheric than the main restaurant across the pool area. Dinnertime seemed to be very busy, so make a reservation if intending to eat there. Kids loved the pizza – and watching the fresh pasta being made.

Shangri-La Singapore also offered different options for a late check-out, extremely handy for those late night long haul flights. I congratulated myself for coming up with the idea of a mini-holiday in transit!
